How much cheaper is it really?

Drugs purchased from Canadian pharmacies can be up to 90% cheaper than the identical prescription purchased in the U.S. Most of the drugs cost 40% to 60% less than in the United States.

Why are drugs cheaper from Canada?

The main reason is that Canada has a policy of controlling drug prices through its national health insurance system. The pharmaceutical companies overcharge American consumers in order to earn a higher profit, but they sell at normal prices to Canadian pharmacies. You can now purchase the exact same drugs from Canada at reasonable prices, without paying a premium for expensive advertising and marketing campaigns.

Is it true that many states have set up programs for employees?

Yes, Gov. Rod Blagojevich of Illinois asked for federal permission to set up a pilot program that would import medications from Canada. Governors in Iowa, Michigan and Minnesota are considering similar moves.

Is it safe?

Drugs sold in Canada come from many of the same factories that supply the U.S. They're the very same pills coming down the chute into identical bottles. There is no documented case of an American getting sick because of drugs bought from Canada. Canadian safety standards are at least as strict as those in the U.S.

Is it legal?

The big pharmaceutical companies have lobbied to fight the efforts of local cities and individuals. Even though the FDA is responsible only for drugs within the United States, they are warning against buying prescription drugs from Canada due to false safety concerns. However, they allow individuals to purchase drugs from Canadian pharmacies as long as you don't resell them in bulk.
